Evidence for the Afterlife, Non-physical Consciousness

There is extraordinary evidence for the afterlife. (Includes links to free e-books on the evidence for the afterlife.)

    This evidence includes:

    • Mediumship: Proxy sittings, Drop-in communicators, Cross-correspondences.
    • Near-death experiences, veridical near-death experiences, and shared near-death experiences.
    • Death-bed visions, veridical death-bed visions, and shared death-bed visions.
    • Apparitions and multiple witness apparitions.
    • Children who remember past lives including those with an unusual type of birth mark on their body where an injury was sustained in the previous life.

Neither ESP or Super-psi can explain the evidence for the afterlife:

Nobel Prize winners Max Planck, Erwin Schrödinger, Brian Josephson, Sir John Eccles, Eugene Wigner, George Wald and other great scientists and philosophers such as John von Neumann, Kurt Gödel, Wernher von Braun, Karl Popper, and Carl Jung believed consciousness is non-physical because of the evidence:

Consciousness is not produced by the brain. Consciousness is not an illusion or an epiphenomenon or an emergent property of the brain. Objective measurable physical phenomena cannot produce unmeasurable subjective experience. Correlation does not prove causation, the brain does not produce consciousness it filters consciousness. Natural selection would not produce consciousness. The brain is not a conscious computer.

Why you should not automatically trust "skeptics" but should demand the same high level of proof from "skeptics" that they demand for claims of the paranormal: Skeptical Misdirection:

    Evidence of God

"Evidence That God Exists: People Who Have Near Death Experiences Meet God."

The beginning of the universe, the fine-tuning of the universe to support life, and the failure of multiverse theories to explain this, demonstrates the existence of a transcendent designer and creator of the universe.

Nobel Prize winning physicist Eugene Wigner believed that, according to quantum mechanics, an observer such as God or a cosmic consciousness is needed to explain how the physical universe could come into existence from a quantum probability wave.

"The physical universe is like a simulation running in the mind of God."

    Near-death Experiences

    Veridical and Shared NDEs

None of the materialist attempts to explain NDEs can really explain them. NDEs cannot be explained by: a lack of oxygen, a dying brain, hallucinations, religious expectations, cultural expectations, hearing about medical procedures after the fact, hearing during resuscitation, brain dysfunction, inhibitory network failure, retinal dysfunction causing an image of a tunnel, brain chemicals such as ketamine, endogenous opioids, neurotransmitter imbalances, or hallucinogens including DMT, REM intrusions, epilepsy or seizures, psychopathology, unique personality traits, residual brain activity during unconsciousness, the experience occurring before or after brain activity stopped, brain activity during CPR, evolutionary adaptation, depersonalization, memory of birth, medication, naloxone, defense against dying, partial anesthesia, misuse of anecdotes, or selective reporting.

NDE Anomalies. Nineteen Anomalies of near-death experiences that materialists cannot explain:

Near-death Experiences and Afterlife Phenomena. The best explanation for near-death experiences is that the phenomenon represents out-of-the-body consciousness.

Why doesn't everyone who survives a near fatal illness or injury have a near-death experience?

Notable Near-death Experiencers Believe In Life After Death. The opinions of specially qualified NDE experiencers such as neurosurgeon Eben Alexander, psychologist Carl Jung, and military remote viewer Joe McMoneagle make a strong case the NDEs represent evidence for the afterlife.

Interview with Near-Death Researcher Sam Parnia

Interview of NDE Researcher Dr. Pim van Lommel by Alex Tsakiris. Veridical NDEs prove consciousness occurs when there is no brain activity. Since consciousness is not produced by the brain, reports of heaven must be taken seriously.

    Ectoplasm and Physical Mediumship

    Jack Webber Photos

Medium Jack Webber Zerdini: "Leon Isaacs, who took the photographs at Webber’s circles, used two cameras placed at different angles…shots using this two-camera technique showed the disposition of trumpets and other objects, establishing that they were not held aloft by any material agency."

Photos of Seances taken by Sven Türck. "The Danish psychic researcher and photographer Sven Türck took many photos of Jonsson's psychokinetic powers, protected against any form of cheating through strict controls in his laboratory."

The Physical Mediumship of Einer Nielsen "This tribute comes from a pastor of the Swedish State Church ... 'Twice I have sat in the cabinet and kept hold of the medium’s hands. The ectoplasm came directly through his clothes. One figure that of Rita, rose up from the ectoplasm grasped my arm, and we went out together to the sitters and talked with them.'"

Pierre Curie (Nobel Prize for Physics): "We have had a series of séances with Eusapia Palladino at the [Society for Psychical Research] It was very interesting, and really the phenomena that we saw appeared inexplicable as trickery—tables raised from all four legs, movement of objects from a distance, hands that pinch or caress you, luminous apparitions. All in a [setting] prepared by us with a small number of spectators all known to us and without a possible accomplice. The only trick possible is that which could result from an extraordinary facility of the medium as a magician. But how do you explain the phenomena when one is holding her hands and feet and when the light is sufficient so that one can see everything that happens?"

    Meditation & Enlightenment

"Relaxation and Enlightenment" I have a system of explaining Buddhist practice that is easy to do and learn and does not involve any abstruse philosophical concepts. I think it is the best system for the average person who wants to reduce the amount of suffering they experience in their life.

I've meditated regularly for over 40 years. I've tried many techniques, been on retreats, and had many different types of experiences. I developed this meditation technique by combining components from different schools and it's the best form of meditation I've ever experienced. It relaxes you and quiets the mind and produces feelings of happiness, unconditional love, and a connectedness to all things. The instructions are written for beginners but this technique can take you as far as you want to go.

"Diet and Serotonin" It is possible to increase serotonin levels in the brain by eating protein 20 to 40 minutes after eating carbohydrates.

"Focusing the Mind Can Help You Relax"

Why is it so hard to concentrate? Sources of distraction and obstacles to concentration during meditation.

When the mind is very quiet and you notice the absence of much of the usual mental activity, it feels like something is missing. Like an emptiness, like no one is home. Like if someone said something unpleasant, there wouldn't be anyone there to be offended.

Not-self Most people would consider the self to consist of their body and mental activity, thoughts and emotions. But if you have an unpleasant thought or emotion that you can't let go of, it is something you don't control, something you didn't ask for, it is not-self. When you realize it is not yours, it begins to fade and it is much easier to let go of.

Buddhism: Selected Sutras and related articles.

Dhamma: A Gradual Training Many people ignore the full scope of Buddhist training and start with meditation which is actually the last step of the last stage. They give scant, if any, attention to the rest of the training and then don't get the results they want.

Samaññaphala Sutta: The Fruits of the Contemplative Life DN 2 translated from the Pali by Thanissaro Bhikkhu. This sutra contains a description of the siddhis, the supernormal powers that are obtained by perfecting the fourth jhana.

Maha-Saccaka Sutta: The Longer Discourse to Saccaka MN 36 translated from the Pali by Thanissaro Bhikkhu. This sutra contains Buddha's description of his enlightenment, how he discovered that the practice of jhana could lead to nibbana, how he remembered his past lives, and where he mentions good and bad destinations in the afterlife: the heavenly world and the lower realms.

Tevijja Sutta : The Sutta (about those who have) the Knowledge of the Three (Vedas) DN 13 adapted by Leigh Brasington. In this sutra, Buddha teaches that the Brahma Viharas can lead to union with Brahma and he says he had a previous life in the Brahma world. Brasington believes that by "union with Brahma" Buddha really meant nibbana.
    Translated by Piya Tan:

Ananda Sutta: To Ananda (On Self, No Self, and Not-self) SN 44.10 translated from the Pali by Thanissaro Bhikkhu. Where Buddha remains silent when asked if there is a soul.

Cula-Malunkyovada Sutta: The Shorter Instructions to Malunkya MN 63 translated from the Pali by Thanissaro Bhikkhu. Where Buddha refuses to say if a fully awakened one continues to exist after death.

The Pali word atta means soul and anatta means not-soul.

Alagaddupama Sutta: The Water-Snake Simile MN 22 translated from the Pali by Thanissaro Bhikkhu. In which Buddha explains why it is wrong to believe the five aggregates of clinging or the cosmos are the eternal self or soul.
Translated with notes by Piya Tan:

Not-self Most people would consider the self to consist of their body and mental activity, thoughts and emotions. But if you have an unpleasant thought or emotion that you can't let go of, it is something you don't control, something you didn't ask for, it is not-self. When you realize it is not yours, it begins to fade and it is much easier to let go of.

Dhamma and Non-duality by Bhikkhu Bodhi: "The teaching of the Buddha as found in the Pali canon does not endorse a philosophy of non-dualism of any variety, nor, I would add, can a non-dualistic perspective be found lying implicit within the Buddha's discourses." This essay also defines oneness as a form non-duality.

Nibbana by Thanissaro Bhikkhu. Parinibbana is not the end of existence. "... one can have foretastes of the experience [of nibbana in the afterlife] in this lifetime, and ... it's the ultimate happiness, something truly worth knowing.

Kalama Sutta: To the Kalamas AN 3.65 translated from the Pali by Thanissaro Bhikkhu. "... any view or belief must be tested by the results it yields when put into practice; and - to guard against the possibility of any bias or limitations in one's understanding of those results - they must further be checked against the experience of people who are wise."

    Intelligent Design: Overviews

Naturalism is an extraordinary claim. The laws of nature seem to be relatively simple mathematical relationships. How is it that just by chance simple natural laws working alone would include or produce all the factors necessary for life: the 20 or 30 cosmological fine tuning factors, at least 15 factors needed to produce habitable planets, at least 20 chemical factors needed for complex life? How is it possible that simple undesigned natural laws could produce the complex machinery of cells and the information needed for simple life and macroevolution? How could such finely-tuned complexity arise at every scale from the atomic to the cosmic from simple undesigned unguided natural laws? If you wanted to design such a complicated system from simple mathematical relationships, it would require a huge amount of intellectual effort. How could it happen just by chance? (A multiverse, for which there is no evidence, couldn't explain it.)

Mainstream Scientists Admit the Evidence for the Natural Origin and Evolution of Life is Missing

Results from mainstream biological research call into question the materialist narrative of the origin of life and macroevolution. DNA sequence data falsifies common descent. Homologous genes regulate analogous structures. There is no plausible materialist explanation for the origin of life. The fossil record shows stasis not change. Precambrian fossils of animal types that first appeared in the Cambrian explosion would have been found if they existed.

    Intelligent Design: FAQs

Frequently raised but weak arguments against Intelligent Design Intelligent Design FAQ from

Intelligent Design FAQs & Primers from The Intelligent Design and Evolution Awareness Center.

Intelligent Design: Skeptical Fallacies The truth is that theories of intelligent design are based on an analysis of scientific evidence and they try to show that intelligent design is a better explanation of the evidence than natural explanations. It is not necessary to identify the designer or explain how the designer arose. Just as the gravity of an unseen mass can be inferred as the cause of observed perturbations of the orbits of planets, an unknown intelligence can be inferred as a cause of of information, cybernetic systems, and mathematical fine-tuning in nature.

    Intelligent Design: Origin of Life

The Top Ten Scientific Problems with Biological and Chemical Evolution by Casey Luskin. No Viable Mechanism to Generate a Primordial Soup ... Unguided Chemical Processes Cannot Explain the Origin of the Genetic Code ... Random Mutations Cannot Generate the Genetic Information Required for Irreducibly Complex Structures ... Natural Selection Struggles to Fix Advantageous Traits into Populations ... Abrupt Appearance of Species in the Fossil Record Does Not Support Darwinian Evolution ... Molecular Biology has Failed to Yield a Grand "Tree of Life" ... Convergent Evolution Challenges Darwinism and Destroys the Logic Behind Common Ancestry ... Neo-Darwinism Struggles to Explain the Biogeographical Distribution of many Species ... Neo-Darwinism has a Long History of Inaccurate Darwinian Predictions about Vestigial Organs and "Junk DNA" ... Bonus Problem: Humans Display Many Behavioral and Cognitive Abilities that Offer No Apparent Survival Advantage

Problems with the Natural Chemical "Origin of Life" (updated). There is no location where life could plausibly have originated naturally, not in deep sea thermal vents, tide pools, the ocean, volcanic ridges, clay surfaces or extraterrestrial locations. There is no good candidate for the first self-replicating molecule, not RNA, DNA, or protein.

Information Theory: Chance and natural law cannot explain the origin of life.

Video: Life could not have formed by natural means. Biomolecules naturally react to form tar.

Video: The Origin of Life: An Inside Story 2016 Lectures with James Tour. A chemistry professor explains why everything we know about chemistry shows that life could not have arisen by natural means.

Life did not Arise Through the Unguided Action of Natural Laws. The genetic code is finely tuned for efficiency (it is not random) and it is unlikely this efficiency could have arisen through evolution because any change in the code would affect every protein in the cell which would be catastrophically fatal.

Materialism Cannot Explain the Origin of the Genetic Code.

Top Five Problems with Current Origin-of-Life Theories by Casey Luskin: 1) No Viable Mechanism to Generate a Primordial Soup. 2) Forming Polymers Requires Dehydration Synthesis. Dehydration synthesis does not occur spontaneously in water. 3) RNA World Hypothesis Lacks Confirming Evidence. 4) Unguided Chemical Processes Cannot Explain the Origin of the Genetic Code. 5) No Workable Model for the Origin of Life

Intelligent Design: Origin of Species ("Macro-Evolution")

Primer: Summary of Problems with Biological and Chemical Evolution There is no good explanation for the origin of complex biochemical features. Molecular and anatomical homology fail to provide evidence for common descent. The fossil record does not show transition from one species to another. Developmental biology fails to support common descent. Genetics and chemistry cannot explain the origin of the genetic code. Neo-Darwinism does not explain the geographical distribution of species.

The Flawed Evidence for Evolution. Genetic analysis falsifies common descent. An evolutionary tree can be made by comparing the same gene in different organisms, but different genes produce widely divergent trees.

The Cambrian Explosion is Best Explained by Intelligent Design Neo-Darwinism cannot explain why during the Cambrian explosion: Many phyla appeared in a brief period of time. The phyla arose without ancestors. There were very few species at that time. No phylum has ever diversified enough to form another phylum. Yet all of these phenomenon are predicted by intelligent design.

The Cambrian Explosion: Biology's Big Bang by Stephen C. Meyer, Marcus Ross, Paul Nelson, and Paul Chien

Intelligent Design: The Origin of Biological Information and the Higher Taxonomic Categories, By: Stephen C. Meyer, Proceedings of the Biological Society of Washington, August 4, 2004. The Cambrian explosion, where many new animal types appeared suddenly 530 million years ago cannot be explained by natural causes but is best explained by intelligent design, since intelligence is the only known cause that can create information and complex systems.

Survival of the fakest. Many of the examples claimed to prove Darwinism (the Miller-Urey primordial soup experiment, the similarity of early embryos in different species, the evolutionary tree, homology in vertebrate limbs, peppered moths evolving a darker color as air pollution darkened tree trunks, Darwin's finches, evolution from apes to humans) are false or misleading.

Why Darwinism is False. The fossil record lacks examples of intermediate species; "early development in vertebrate embryos is more consistent with separate origins than with common ancestry; ... non-coding DNA is fully functional, contrary to neo-Darwinian predictions; ... natural selection can accomplish nothing more than artificial selection—which is to say, minor changes within existing species."

Video: A Critique of Darwinist Icons "Many of the pillars of Darwinian theory are either false or misleading." The evolutionary tree is false. Homology is not proof of common descent. The classic diagrams showing similarities in embryos of different species were faked. Peppered moths supposedly evolved darker colors because tree trunks were darkened by air pollution, but the moths don't rest on tree trunks. Temporary changes in beak morphology of Galapagos finches were due to changes in the frequency of existing genes and do not explain the formation of new genetic information needed to explain macroevolution.

Newly discovered whale fossil, older than its supposed ancestor species, proves Darwinists rely on flawed logic.

Nature's best evidence for natural selection does not show that natural selection can cause macroevolution.

The missing ancestors of the Cambrian explosion would have been found if they existed.

Video: Darwinism on Trial with University of California Berkley law professor Phillip E. Johnson

Homologous genes that regulate the development of analogous structures are better explained by intelligent design than natural selection.

Differences in early embryonic development provide evidence that the animal phyla did not share a multicellular common ancestor.

Lee Spetner explains why natural selection can't produce macroevolution.

Paleontologist and museum curator explains why the fossil record supports intelligent design not natural selection.

    Intelligent Design: Cosmology

The Cosmological Argument for a Transcendent Designer of the Universe. The discovery that the universe is expanding, the discovery that the universe came from nothing, and the discovery that natural laws are finely tuned to make life possible, all demonstrate that the universe was created and designed by an intelligence outside the universe. The evidence for intelligent design in the origin and evolution of life shows that the designer continued to play a role in the universe long after its creation.

Video: Doug Ell Discusses the Evidence for Intelligent Design

The Fine-Tuning of the Universe to one part in 10^10^123 is best explained by an intelligent designer and creator, aka. God.

Multiverse Theories Fail to Explain Our Finely Tuned Universe. Intelligent Design is a Better Explanation.

Guillermo Gonzalez on the Fine-tuning of the Universe to Support Life

Opposing the multiverse by George Ellis. "Martin Gardner (2003) puts it this way: 'There is not the slightest shred of reliable evidence that there is any universe other than the one we are in. No multiverse theory has so far provided a prediction that can be tested. As far as we can tell, universes are not as plentiful as even two blackberries.'"

The multiverse argument for the existence of paranormal phenomena. Proposing a multiverse does not help the materialist cause, it hurts it. If there are enough universes to explain the existence of our "improbable" universe as the result of chance, then there should be enough universes for one to exist with a God, spirits, Sasquatch, intelligent designer(s), UFOs, alien abductions, psi, etc, etc.

The Privileged Planet: The rare confluence of conditions that allow Earth to support complex life also make the Earth the best location from which to make scientific discoveries. Those scientific discoveries reveal that the universe is understandable to humankind. All this indicates a purpose to the universe: to support intelligent life and to allow intelligent life to discover that the universe was created.

Privileged Species: How the Cosmos is Designed for Human Life: "The documentary investigates the special properties of carbon, water, and oxygen that make human life and the life of other organisms possible, and it explores some of the unique features of humans that make us a truly privileged species."

Atheists: "Science shows there is no good reason to believe in God". Nobel Prize Winning Scientists: "The scientific evidence is best explained by the existence of God".

Many scientists believed the evidence that the universe was designed. These scientists include Nobel prize winners such as Albert Einstein, Werner Heisenberg, Guglielmo Marconi, Brian Josephson, William Phillips, Richard Smalley, Arno Penzias, Charles Townes, Arthur Compton, Antony Hewish, Christian Anfinsen, Walter Kohn, Arthur Schawlow, and other scientists, Charles Darwin, Sir Fred Hoyle, John von Neumann, Wernher von Braun, and Louis Pasteur.

The Politics of Suppression of Intelligent Design.
    Also see:

Video: Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. This video documents the persecution experienced by scientists who look for signs of intelligent design in nature.
This video elicited a large number of bogus criticisms which is additional evidence of persecution. A response to these criticisms can be found at:

    Charles Darwin

Darwin believed in intelligent design, he believed natural laws were designed.

Darwin believed that if human intelligence evolved, it is not reliable and this undermines materialism. If human reason is not reliable there are no grounds to believe anything including materialism.

Darwin believed that working as a scientist can make a person narrow-minded. This explains why so many scientists are pseudo-skeptics and it supports the argument that scientists are not qualified to make decisions on public policy including how scientific research funds should be allocated.

    Human Origins

It would take more than 100 million years for a small functional change involving two mutations to occur naturally in humans. The entire primate line has existed for less than that length of time and there are many more mutations that separate humans from apes.

The evidence usually said to demonstrate that humans evolved from apes, does not demonstrate any such thing:

DNA Comparisons between Humans and Chimps: A Response to the Venema Critique of the RTB Human Origins Model, Part 2 "It is interesting that when evolutionary biologists discuss genetic comparisons between human and chimpanzee genomes, the fact that, again, as much as 25 percent of the two genomes won’t align receives no mention. Instead, the focus is only on the portions of the genome that display a high-degree of similarity. This distorted emphasis makes the case for the evolutionary connection between humans and chimps seem more compelling than it may actually be."

Possible reasons for the UFO cover-up:

    • The existence of a more technologically advanced civilization that does not use money is a threat to the established order.
    • Alien technology could be used to produce dangerous weapons.
    • The government doesn't want to admit abductions are occurring that they cannot prevent.
    • The government doesn't want to admit there are aliens who look just like humans who have infiltrated the highest levels of government.
    • The aliens might tell the truth about the human soul driving both materialist and religious believers into conniptions.
    • The government doesn't want to admit the crimes they committed during the decades long cover-up.
    • The government doesn't want to admit that they turned over recovered alien technology to private enterprise that is now forming a breakaway civilization.

Most Published Research Findings are False

Most published research findings are false:

Bad Science Muckrakers Question the Big Science Status Quo: "... inherent biases and the flawed statistical analyses built into most 'hypothesis driven' research, resulting in publications that largely represent 'accurate measures of the prevailing bias.'"

Linus Pauling: "Everyone should know that most cancer research is largely a fraud and that the major cancer research organizations are derelict in their duties to the people who support them." -Linus Pauling PhD (Two-time Nobel Prize winner)."

"The Lancet": The case against science is straightforward: much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue. Afflicted by studies with small sample sizes, tiny effects, invalid exploratory analyses, and flagrant conflicts of interest, together with an obsession for pursuing fashionable trends of dubious importance, science has taken a turn towards darkness."

"Nature": "Ridding science of shoddy statistics will require scrutiny of every step, not merely the last one, say Jeffrey T. Leek and Roger D. Peng."

Publishers withdraw more than 120 gibberish papers: "The publishers Springer and IEEE are removing more than 120 papers from their subscription services after a French researcher discovered that the works were computer-generated nonsense."

The New England Journal of Medicine: "In August 2015, the publisher Springer retracted 64 articles from 10 different subscription journals “after editorial checks spotted fake email addresses, and subsequent internal investigations uncovered fabricated peer review reports,” according to a statement on their website.1 The retractions came only months after BioMed Central, an open-access publisher also owned by Springer, retracted 43 articles for the same reason." "A study that surveyed all the published cosmological literature between the years 1996 and 2008 showed that the statistics of the results were too good to be true. In fact, the statistical spread of the results was not consistent with what would be expected mathematically, which means cosmologists were in agreement with each other – but to a worrying degree. This meant that either results were being tuned somehow to reflect the status-quo, or that there may be some selection effect where only those papers that agreed with the status-quo were being accepted by journals."

University of Oxford: "Half the world's natural history specimens may have the wrong name." "Dr. Prasad and Dr. Cifu extrapolate from past reversals to conclude that about 40 percent of what we consider state-of-the-art health care is likely to turn out to be unhelpful or actually harmful."

    Suicide and the Afterlife.

In the vast majority of cases, people kill themselves due to abnormal brain chemistry.

Spirits who need healing or other types of help when they cross over get the help they need in the afterlife.

Someone who is grieving for a suicide victim, or a suicide victim who has just crossed over, needs to understand there is no special punishment assigned to suicide victims in the afterlife.

Someone who is contemplating suicide needs to understand that suicide won't solve anything because you are an immortal spirit and it is impossible to really kill yourself. Furthermore, you can't escape the consequences of your actions by killing yourself.

Here are excerpts from someone who had an NDE after attempting suicide:
"I came into the presence of a brilliant, wonderfully warm and loving Light. While I was in the presence of this Light I was shown a review of my life and all the events that brought me to that point."
"I was given the choice of remaining with the light, provided I return later to the physical world and experience all that brought me to the point of shooting myself, or I could return now and pick up my life where it was. I was told that I would eventually have the family and love I so desperately yearned for."

The Benefits of Religion and Meaning in Life

Materialism: Meaning is an illusion. Science: People need meaning to thrive.

Belief in religion and spirituality gives meaning to life in a way that atheism cannot.

Christianity and religion have made an enormously positive contribution to civilization.

Exploding the persistant myth that Christianity impeded the growth of science. by James Hannam in "... the "scientific revolution" was a continuation of developments that started deep in the Middle Ages among people whose scientific work expressed their religious belief. ... Given the advantages Christianity provided, it is hardly surprising that modern science developed only in the West, within a Christian civilization."

Religion provides a solid foundation for ethics and morality in a way that atheism and materialism cannot.

Belief in religion and spirituality is enormously beneficial to the individual.

Andrew Sims, past president of Royal College of Psychiatrists: "The advantageous effect of religious belief and spirituality on mental and physical health is one of the best kept secrets in psychiatry and medicine generally. ... In the majority of studies, religious involvement is correlated with well-being, happiness and life satisfaction; hope and optimism; purpose and meaning in life; higher self-esteem; better adaptation to bereavement; greater social support and less loneliness; lower rates of depression and faster recovery from depression; lower rates of suicide and fewer positive attitudes towards suicide; less anxiety; less psychosis and fewer psychotic tendencies; lower rates of alcohol and drug use and abuse; less delinquency and criminal activity; greater marital stability and satisfaction… We concluded that for the vast majority of people the apparent benefits of devout belief and practice probably outweigh the risks.

Research shows that belief in the paranormal and religion can be conducive to the health and well being of people. These beliefs can help people cope with grief, divorce, job loss, the fear of death, particularly in the terminally ill, and can deter suicide. Therefore, when skeptics and atheists try to convince people to stop believing in the paranormal and religion, they may be doing harm to other people. Furthermore, research also shows that having meaning in life is necessary for people to thrive but skeptics claim consciousness and meaning are illusions. When skeptics spread their philosophy of materialism they may cause harm by taking the meaning and purpose of life away from people.

Belief in religion and the afterlife eases grief and fear of death. It deters suicide, and helps people cope with adversity such as unemployment and divorce. People who find meaning in life are healthier, but pseudoskeptics espouse materialism which says that life is meaningless.

Super-psi cannot Explain the Evidence for the Afterlife

There is a vast amount of evidence that is better explained by survival after death than by super-psi:

ESP is not produced by the brain. ESP is not dependent on space or time and it cannot be produced by any physical process including quantum entanglement. The existence of psi is evidence that consciousness is non-physical. If consciousness is non-physical, then super-psi loses any advantage a materialist might attribute to parsimony.

Drop in communicators are spirits unrelated the the medium and the sitters who communicate for purposes of their own. They show that spirits have initiative, purpose, and problem solving ability:

Cross correspondences are cases where a message is given in parts through different mediums who don't know they are being used for in that way. The parts of the message only make sense when combined and contain highly specialized knowledge known by the spirit. This shows that spirits have initiative, problem solving ability, organizational ability, and retain highly specialized knowledge they had during life.

Mrs. Piper: Evidence for Survival After Death Mrs Piper's mediumship shows that the characteristics of the communication varies with the spirit not the medium or sitters. For example some spirits are good communicators others are not, some communicate names easily others don't, most spirits have difficulty communicating shortly after death, most spirits become better communicators with practice.

Super-psi does not Explain the Evidence for the Afterlife Guy Lyon Playfair, William Roll, and Ian Stevenson all thought poltergeist phenomenon that did not depend on the presence of any one individual were caused by spirits.

When a child remembers a past life, and has a birthmark at a location of an injury in the past life, it suggests the spirit body may carry information from one life to the next. It would be absurd to believe the fetus was psychic and was fulfilling a psychological need by unconsciously creating the birth mark.

Shared Death Bed Visions, Shared Near-Death Experiences, and Multiple Witness Crisis Apparitions are not well explained by super-psi. You'd have to be a super-duper-psychic not just a super-psychic to induce hallucinations in other people.

Para-Pseudo-Skeptics Highly skilled psychics who live with the phenomena every day and know many details of the phenomena that never get published in parapsychology journals can tell the difference between ESP and spirit communication. They are the experts on the phenomenon and know infinitely more about it that any parapsychologist.

Near-death Experiences and Afterlife Phenomena Near-death experiences are best explained as out-of-the-body consciousness because they occur when the brain is not capable of supporting lucid conscious experiences:

"A Constructive Approach to the Conservative / Liberal Divide": The political polarization in the US is caused by journalists and politicians who are misleading the public. Research by sociologist Jonathan Haidt shows that all people throughout the world have the same five basic intuitions about morality. The differences between liberals and conservatives occur in slight preferences about which aspects of morality they think are most important. Liberals and conservatives have much more in common than they have differences. However, journalists and politicians gain personally by portraying these differences as a matter of smart vs. stupid or good vs evil. This is a scam. Good, intelligent people can disagree. Every scientific controversy shows that the interpretation of facts is only an opinion. If people will stop being fooled by this deception, the hate mongers will become powerless and our society will be able to solve problems through civil discussions based on mutual understanding and respect.

"What Someone Should Say at a Political Rally": "I could go through every issue that divided us in the last election and show that both sides have legitimate concerns."

"Most News Stories are Crafted to Misinform and Manipulate You": Problems can be identified and solutions found without experiencing anger, fear, and hate. But we are programmed by the media to react with those emotions every time we think of the other political party or hear their views expressed. It is a major cause of political polarization in the US.

"Your logical mind is an illusion." People don't use logic and reason to choose beliefs and make decisions, they use reason to defend their beliefs and decisions. People can be persuaded but not by facts. People are persuaded by psychological tricks that take advantage of instinctive behaviors.

"A growing number of American companies are moving their manufacturing back to the United States. ... Jan 19th 2013" This is due to three trends, lower energy prices in the US due to fracking, higher wages overseas, and the use of automation in the US which reduces labor costs.

"Why robots, not trade, are behind so many factory job losses" By Paul Wiseman, Nov. 2, 2016. "General Motors, for instance, now employs barely a third of the 600,000 workers it had in the 1970s. Yet it churns out more cars and trucks than ever. ... Or look at production of steel and other primary metals. Since 1997, the United States has lost 265,000 jobs in the production of primary metals -- a 42 percent plunge -- at a time when such production in the U.S. has surged 38 percent. Allan Collard-Wexler of Duke University and Jan De Loecker of Princeton University found last year that America didn't lose most steel jobs to foreign competition or faltering sales. Steel jobs vanished because of the rise of a new technology: Super-efficient mini-mills that make steel largely from scrap metal.

"U.S. manufacturing may depend on automation to survive and prosper": Martin Neil BailyMonday, December 21, 2015 "Germany, as noted, has seen manufacturing employment declines also, but the size of their manufacturing sector is larger than ours, running huge trade surplus.
